I seek out the following: Apparently Francis Brisbane DICK was both a locksmith and a sexton for the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. He was listed in the 1840 Philadelphia City Directory, also. He seems to be the father of William Brisbane DICK, the chief partner of the firm, DICK & FITZGERALD, the Fitzgerald being Lawrence Rees FITZGERALD, my great uncle and brother of my g,g-grandfather. They had left Philadelphia in the 1840's for New York, where they located and obtained work. In a short time, they became a very important publishing firm, with many publications being written by Wm B, himself, but others by well-known public figures and authors. You can find a lot of their publications by surfing the web for "Dick and Fitzgerald." Harris Brisbane DICK appears to be William's son, and he wrote one or two publications for his father's firm, including one on a dance from the later 1800's that was popular, called The German. He did not make a big name for himself in writing, however, but made more of a name for the multitudinous artworks he procured, probably by using the family inheritance from his father, William, who had died on September 5, 1901 at the age of 74 at Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. These he left to a museum -- I believe it was the Metropolitan Art Museum, and hence, you will find his name on the web. In particular, the Harris B Dick Fund is mentioned, which may even be ongoing to this day -- I do not know. If you have any further knowledge on any of the above persons, please do contact me, as I am really interested in learning more, and it may help me in some sort of way in establishing the FITZGERALD portion of my family tree.
