Frank

I agree with Peter. There is more than one variant of the name as well as more than one source.

My origins of the name DIBBLE (and for me the variant DIBBLEE) were probably like yours from Robert DEEBLE who (as I have it) was from Glastonbury, Somerset, ENGLAND. He went to America in or about 1634. During the 1800's my 3G Grandfather returned to the UK (possibly via Liverpool). His name is/was Isaac Cleveland DIBBLEE.

And so you see my name variant has gone from DEEBLE/DEBLE/DIBLE/DIBBLE/DIBBLEE lastly changed by The Reverend Ebenezer DIBBLEE from DIBBLE as the name DIBBLE sounded too much like "Devil" in the American tongue.

I am more interested to see (but alas I believe not possible) the link between the English DIBBLE and the American DIBBLE. Most of the parish records were destroyed during the War (I believe) during the bombing of Exeter Cathedral!!?

Has anyone got an ancestor from Glastonbury Somerset that could link with Robert DEEBLE? What was the name of Robert DEEBLE's wife.

VB Lamb obviously did a lot of good work but alas not down my line. He seems to have caused confusion here!!

Regards to all my distant cousins

Martyn Hall
