Dibble Family Genealogy Forum

Actually, "dibble" is English not German, at least from my research. German "devil" is Teufel (pronounced toy-ful). Based on VB Lamb Jr's work most, if not all American Dibble's appear to be descended from a Robt Deeble of England, who emigrated in 1635 to CT.
But I am interested in hearing more about your family, as my surname was spelled Dibble until 1820, when it was changed by my g-g-g-grandfather. I am also from NY originally.
Regards
Frank
