I am trying to verify the parents of Mary DIBBLE (b. 1704, East Hampton, NY) who in 1728 married John WILLOUGHBY (b.1703 New London, CT). It appears she was the d/o Thomas DIBBLE (b. 1677, Windsor, CT), and Rachel MULFORD (b. 1684/84, East Hampton, NY). This Mary DIBBLE is reported to be a descendant of the Gardiner//Conkling/Mulford families in East Hampton, NY. I have located the above information in a number of resources, including Lamb VanBuren, Jr’s ‘Dibble Family’ as well as other family trees and publications. There appears to be a conflict in a number of family files that indicate Mary was 1st m. to John Edwards in 1716 (East Hampton, NY). She was born in 1704 – so that would make her 12 yrs of age. Her 2nd m. to John Willoughby was in 1728 (CT) but records show her name as Mary Dibble, not Edwards. I am wondering if there were two Mary Dibbles. (Note: VanBuren’s book lists only the marriage of Mary Dibble to John Willoughby) Does anyone have information on either primary or accurate secondary sources to validate the parents of Mary Dibble?
