Origin of the Surname Dias
Posted by: Renato Dias Date: November 11, 1998 at 21:18:36

Does anyone know the origin of Dias ?
I heard the following explanation :
Dias is derived from the Spanish Diegues , which means son of Diego .
Diego should be Tiago ( which is James for the English speaking , or Jacques for the French , or Giacommo for the Italian , which at the end goes back to Jacob )
In fact Tiago in Spanish or Portuguese sounds like Jacob . Thus , your Isaac Dias could be really Isaac ben Jacob ???
