My late grandfather said he was born in Philadelphia in 1905. His story is that his parents came from Ireland, and that they died in a fire in Philadelphia when he was approximately 8 years old.
He was put on an orphan train to Illinois, from which he escaped at around age 13 and went to Arkansas.
I'm looking for anyone who can help to verify/refute his stories. Grandpa was an interesting character, and not all of his stories have panned out. Ideally, I'd like to find some living relatives in either the US or in Ireland.
He may have married in Arkansas around 1920, and again in either Arkansas, Kentucky or St. Louis to my paternal grandmather Nellie May Coombs in the late 1920's early 1930's.
Issue from that marriage were my father, William Gerald Diamond and his sister Jeannie Diamond. Several illegitimate children also are known to exist in the St. Louis area.
What I do recall is that for many years, Grandpa drove for Roadway.
