I just finished reading "Anatomy of A Gangster Jack " Legs" Diamond by Gary Levine 1979.
It is never mentioned that Diamond was not Jack's last name. In Ireland Sara met John Diamond at a dance in Kilrush, Ireland and they were married two yrs later. Sara wanted a better life, so they moved to Philadelphia with her husbands relatives in 1891. Legs father did become a committeeman of the 25th district, in the 31st ward. The Diamond family eventually settled at 2350 East Albert St., where Jack was born in 1897.
Hope this is more of a help then hinder.
