Boy’s Axe Slips; Cuts Gash in Sister’s Face
Special to The Tribune.
Melstone, Sept. 5 – Lowell Deyo, 9-year-old son of Mrs. Deyo of this place, seriously injured his 5-year-old sister Wednesday, when he gashed her face open with an axe.The child was playing around her brother, who was chopping wood, when the axe slipped, cutting her face badly.Six stitches were necessary to close the gash.
( I am not related, but curious when newspaper didn’t identify the mother or daughter.
I had hoped through census records to identify family of Lowell Deyo – was unable to
do so.This Lowell would have been born about 1915 / 1916. )
There are no “Deyo” persons listed in the 1930 Montana census index.
A search of the 1930 U.S. census index lists only 1 entry for any “Lowell Deyo”being:
Lowell Deyoage 13bornNew Yorkwhite – lodger – home: Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co., New York.He is with Laretta Deyo age 50 born N.Y. and they are both lodgers in
the dwelling of Mary Ertz age 40 born N.Y. with her son George Ertz age 13 and
