I am working on a branch of the DEY family which pronounces the name "Dye" (NOT Day) and is descended from Dirck Siecken, immigrant to New Amsterdam. My branch, after leaving their home near Wayne, NJ (the "Dey Mansion," now open to the public) in about 1811, went to Seneca County, New York for several decades. My ancestor, William McA. Dey (1793-1874), moved to Livingston County, Michigan in the late 1840s and settled in Handy Township. William had a son, Pierson W. Dey, to whom his family Bible went, and from Pierson to his son, George Augustus Dey, who had it in about 1900. (I know this from Pierson's Civil War pension application; the Bible was cited as proof of Pierson's age.) I have been in pursuit of this Bible for years, because I descend from Pierson's younger sister Susan Dey who was born in 1832. She left virtually no public records of her life so I only have estimates for her marriage date and death date. Her two sons, Henry and Fred Woodard, were named in William McA. Dey's will as "the legal heirs of my daughter Susan Woodard, deceased." Recently I have been told that an unpublished genealogy of this Michigan branch of the Dey family was prepared in 1938 and that the original copy belonged to Theodore Dey of Fowlerville, Michigan. Unfortunately he died in 1997 and I have no contacts in Livingston County. If anyone finds this message and knows where I can locate and get a copy of the genealogy, I would be very grateful. I was also told that there was a "scroll" of the family tree which was displayed at various Dey family reunions in Fowlerville. I'd be interested in locating that, too. Children of William McA. Dey included: George P. Dey, 1821-1865, died in the Civil War. Betsey, married Nathan Kinne. Ann, 1825-1904, married John Demerest. (John Demerest was appointed guardian to Henry and Fred Woodard, and Ann brought them up after Susan's death.) Pierson W., 1827-1902, mentioned above. Molly, married Reuben Babbitt. Hester ("Hettie"), married Gilbert Demerest. (I have been in contact with a descendant.) Richard, was living in Waterloo, Seneca Co., NY in 1877. Susan, 1832-about 1860/61, married Allan (or Almon?) Woodard. Notify Administrator about this message?
