My Richard Dey from the 1850 NY Census has a wife Margaret Catherine Huffman(Hoffman) age 21 and a son Smith age 6. Next I find him in the Ohio 1870 Census living in Youngstown with 2nd wife Phebe Ann Stanford Thayer and children (of first wife) Sarah age 16, Delia age 10, Richard H. age 6. In 1861 Smith died as idd another son George at age 3. It is in this Ohio census that Richard states that his parents are foreign born. I have tried to link him up with other known Deys in NY and NJ and can find no connection. He served in Co. 39 NJ Infantry per Civil War Pension Records. His wife Phebe applied for pensiion in either Jan or June 1887. I know of no siblings. How are you related to Deys? I too have lots of info on Deys of NJ and NY, mostly from one book source,"The history of the Treman, Tremaine, Truman Family in America with related families of Mack, Dey, Board and Ayres being a history of Joseph Truman of New London CT". It traces the family of Dirck Jansen Dey in the 1600's to descendents into the early 1900's. I imagine you are familir with this work. This was especially interesting to me since I grew up in the town next to New London and graduated from New London High School, although I live in another state now and this book was loaned to me by a neighbor here. Thanks for responding to my query. Notify Administrator about this message?
