Tamar Dexter - Falmouth, MA

I have no Dexter relatives but in looking through a book on Cape Cod I came across the following and developed a deep respect for Tamar. "In 1779, during the Revolutionary War, the British visted the houses of Ephraim and Manasseh (Tamar's husband)at Woods Hole in search of fresh provisions, having learned that they had fine dairies. A refugee led two soldiers to Mrs. Tamar's cheese room and each speared a cheese with his bayonet, expecting to bear away the booty in triumph, but Mrs. Swift(Tamar Dexter) met them at the door and recovered her cheeses in spite of the bayonets, and drove off the soldiers, whether with her tongue or a more weighty weapon, History saith not."

Cheers for having such a spunky relative you Dexters.
