Robert,
Look up the "Ionia County Historical Society" on your web search engine. You will find that Samuel Dexter formed a group of people to pioneer interior of Michigan in about 1830. There is also a book published by the Grand Haven Historical Society - my brother has a copy of that, but I think it may be out of print now. This may be what you are referring to since there would definitely have been a wagon train (they came from New York). Samuel Dexter and party founded Ionia and Grand Rapids. I do not know if there is any connection to my ancestors or not. My great great great great grandfather, Benjamin Dexter lived in Maine, and died somewhere in New York or Vermont. His son Lorin William came and pioneered in New Boston, Michigan some time between 1830 and 1840. Small world?? Maybe more research will help.
