Hello Linda,
Isn't this great????This is my ancestral home.I saw this in my issue of the newsletter and almost did cartwheels!Had to contact Marilyn DeWitt Altman, she is the SC State Regent. We are cousins through two sons of Charles and Mercy DeWitt of VA.Thomas (Marilyn) and Martin (me) moved to SC in the mid 1700's.I have other pictures of the home that a cousin took and sent to me.Two gentlemen are now living in the home and restoring it.
Captain William DeWitt was my ancestor that I used to join DAR.I have done extensive research with the other "cousins" on this branch of the DeWitts with tremendous help from the ladies of the Darlington Cty Historical Society, especially Kay Williamson!Because of her, I am now in possession of a copy of Captain William DeWitt's Will mentioning my 4x great grandfather, Major John DeWitt.Just to mention, the home was passed on to a daughter, Dorothea "Dolly" DeWitt, who married Josiah Evans and not to my 4x great grandfather.
I have my family tree on Ancestry.com under "Jacob DeWitt and his Descendants Family Tree".Check it out.
