Thank you so much for the information. My DeWitts left Society Hill, South Carolina in the early 1830/40's and settled in the Eufaula, Barbour County area. There they intermarried with the Danforths and Bullocks. My immediate line, William Thomas DeWitt Sr, his wife, Elizabeth Mosher DeWitt and children left Alabama in 1856 on the expedition that involved Henry D Clayton and Joshua Danforth to the Kansas Territory.Eventually settling in Johnson County, Missouri just east of Kansas City. After the Civil War, two of the children, John Mosher DeWitt and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Mosher DeWitt returned to Alabama.John marrying into the McNabb family and Lizzie marrying a John Britt.William Thomas Sr apparently after the death of my greatgrandfather, William Thomas DeWitt Jr in 1887, moved back to Alabama to live with his son, John and died in Geneva, Alabama in 1890.Oh, for a copy of the 1890 census!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the info! Can't wait to wade through all the information!!!!!
