Theres 4 tests back so far on the DeWitt surname. I matched 36 out of 37 markers with John DeWitt who has a paper trail back to Pieter DeWitt and Dorothy Volckers from Long Island. DNA says that there is a 94.8% probability that we match going back 10 generations and 99.77% at 18 generations. Theres a few DeWitt researchers that says Abraham and Catherine Burns are Amos's parents. Now I'm certain that Amos's grandparents are Paulus and Catherine Depuy, but they had several sons with very few that lived in West Virginia. I do know for certain that Amos was born in W. Va. based on his 1870 census. So it's just a matter of time in finding out for certain. So after about 8 years of searching, a few scrapes on the inside of my cheek has taken care of this big matter. I'm hoping more people will go the DNA route so we can sort these DeWitt's out once and for all.
