In May 1999, my father Keith E. DeVries, my sister, Tonya K. DeVries-Morse, and myself traveled to the East Freisland area to locate where my grandfather, Minert DeVries, had been born. His place of birth was Upghant-Skot, a small township in the Marienhoffe area of NW Germany, E of the Frisian Islands, not far from Norden and the North Sea, bordering The Netherlands. In Upghant-Skot we visited the local courthouse and received certified birth certificates for Minert and other relatives. Adjacent to the courthouse was a cemetary where we noticed a few DeVries names. Please contact me if you'd like to me to gather further info on our trip to discover our "DeVries Roots!" It was an extremely memorable and heartwarming journey.
