Dear Members of the group, I received a question from someone in Russia. "My name is Andrey Sidorov and I live in the city of Vladivostok, Far East of Russia. I found your name in the Internet while searching the information for de Vries family. James Cornelius de Vries was a merchant and a shipowner in Vladivostok in the last half of the 19-th century. He came to the Far East of Russia at around 1865 from the USA (he was a citizen of the USA)and went back to the States in 1897. His wafe's name was Elisabeth (born 1829), and one of his children was William Francis de Vries. Unfortunately, we have no more information, by the way, I do not know the exact spelling of his name, I transliterated his name from Russian. Here in Vladivostok a small peninsular (he had a farm there) in the Amur bay is named after him and everybody knows this name, but not the person. I'm working on memoires of a local Finnish-born merchant Otto Lindholm who often mentioned his name, but we have no information on this gentlemen: nor the dates of his life, nor his original name (James is an English version of his Dutch name)." Perhaps someone can help him with the answer. If you have something, please send an e-mail to me Best of regards Olaf Nijhuis =============================================== Bezoek mijn genealogiesite http://olaf.itgo.com Ben op zoek naar de Families: Nijhuis - Willemsen - Bovenkerk Visit my genealogy pages: http://olaf.itgo.com =============================================== Notify Administrator about this message?
