Mann's (the late author) book on the DeVore clan is certainly a goldmine for those of you who can trace yourselves into it -- primarily those DeVore folks who were in PA in the 1800s. However, am I the ONLY person who has DeVore (De Vore) lineage that is NOT part of the DeVores in Mann's text? Even more odd, despite it being as French a surname as one can imagine, I believe I read somewhere that Mann says (or someone interpreted her as saying) that the DeVore name hasn't been traced to France! MY DeVore line starts with a George W. De Vore ('W' could be for Wellington, but unknown for sure). According to the 1900 census, et.al., HIS father was born in FRANCE. Seeing as George W. De Vore (DeVore) was born in PA in 1843, and seeing as his mother was from PA, I can safely presume that his father immigrated from France to the U.S. somewhere around 1835-40, landed in PA, and eventually met some dame from PA, lived in McVeytown (Mifflin Co.) and had baby George W. De Vore in 1843. Thus, my line goes directly back to France, if the census data be true, and my DeVore tree will not be found in Mann's book. Any other DeVore researchers who fall outside of the Mann research? Patrick Boland pboland@co.wayne.mi.us patrick-boland@msn.com Notify Administrator about this message?
