Does this family ring ANY bells with anyone?
Godfrey (aka Fred / Frederick A.B.) Biersdorf) who supposedly was born in Danzig, Germany (now known as Gdansk, Poland) in Aug. 1844. According to "family stories" heard as a kid he smuggled himself aboard an oceanliner and came to the U.S. - Well, you know how family tales go <G> - it's like he came out of the proverbial "cabbage patch"!
I first can locate him in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR, married to Josephine Ernestine DESVAUX. Josephine was born in Versailles, France in 1848. She was the daughter of Louis Jacque DESVAUX and Victoire Aglae GIGOUX. They had three children b. in Oregon (Portland).
I can trace this DESVAUX/GIGOUX back to France, if anyone is interested.
