Jane,

Try using the Scottish General Registers Office website at http://www.origins.net/
I've used them in the past. They have all the birth, death and marriage records for Scotland
online. The records date from the 1500s on and the fees for getting a certified copy of a record
you find are very reasonable. I highly recommend this service.
