My great-grand parents were James Devlin born circa 1849 in Shettleston and Isabella Halliday born circa 1854 in Coatbridge, Scotland. They were married on the 4th October 1871 in Shettleston "after banns according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church". Witnesses were Thomas Devlin and Sarah Devlin, of which I know nothing more. James's (my great-grandfather) parents were Bernard Devlin, deceased at the time of the wedding and Margaret Ford. Isabella's parents were John Halliday, also deceased at the time of the wedding, and Margaret Summerval. My Grandfather, James Devlin was born in Blantyre, Scotland on the 16th September 1881 and died in Scotland (Falkirk) on the 2nd April 1961. At the time of the 1891 census, the family were listed as living in Lindsay Land, Blantyre as follows: James Devlin Head Coalminer aged 4? born Shettleston Isabella Devlin Wife aged 37(9?) born Coatbridge Thomas Devlin Son Coalminer aged 16 born Monkland John Devlin Son Coalminer aged 14 born Blantyre Edward Devlin Son Scholar aged 11 born Blantyre James Devlin (my grandfather) Son Scholar aged 9 born Blantyre Hendry (Henry?) Devlin Son Scholar aged 7 born Blantyre Andrew Devlin Son Scholar aged 5 born Blantyre Isabella Devlin Daughter aged 3 born Blantyre Bernard Devlin Son aged 1 There was also a Martin Devlin and a Patrick Devlin who must have been born after the 1891 census but who appear on a verified family photo taken circa 1895. Patrick, Martin and Isabella and possibly others emigrated to the US in the early 1900's. Martin was a Captain in the US army in France during WW1 where he met up with my grandfather James who served with the British field ambulance. Any links from both sides of the pond appreciated.
