Help Getting Started

I want to begin tracing my family back to Ireland and am not sure where to begin. Any advice would be great. My grandfather was born in Ohio (John Devlin) as was I (Patrick Devlin) my father doesn't know any of the history and an aunt who does is now suffering from Alzheimer's. PLEASE HELP
