From 1848 - 1950 over 6 million adults and children emigrated from Ireland - over 2.5 million departed from Cobh, making it the single most important port of emigration.

Robert,

Cobh, County Cork, Ireland was a port in Ireland where the ships departed. Rose Devlin was probably from another county in Ireland.


In the Distribution of surnames in Ireland in 1890 (Matheson's special report), I found:

Results will be displayed for surnames having five or more entries in the births indexes of 1890, together with the number registered in each of the four provinces, and the counties in which these names are principally found along with any variations in spelling where applicable.


devlin Total births:112

Principally located in counties:Antrim, Tyrone, Dublin, Armagh and Londonderry.

Total Ulster = 88
Total Leinster = 19
Total Connaught = 2
