Katherine
Thank you for your e-mail to GenForum. Don't know if I told you-this branch of the Devito
family(we spell it both ways-my birth certificate originall said DeVito)is from Guiseppe(Joseph) DeVito, born in Bella Muro Province de Potenza Italy in 1894-his parents Pio and Serafina DeVito of the same town.He was carried into USA by parents that same year. They lived in the upper west side of Manhattan-a trendy area today-but in those days had a subway el running up Columbus Ave.They lived in the 80th St.area directly behind the American Museum of Natural History. He later married my mother and moved to Washington Heights-184th St.in Manhattan. My sisters and I were all born there-at home.We later moved but lived close by to Grandmother Serafina and Aunt Theresa. This is really a long story but the sum and substance is this---thats all I know about the Devito's except there were cousins and uncles with that name living in the Bronx and Queens. I've lost all trace of them and trying to find them now...with this marvelous new invention...the Internet. Don't know if this helps but I think you'll be interested.
Pete Devito
