Hello Robert,

I will be glad to help you get started. Email me when you have a chance at asper@thuntek.net and I will arrange to send you some files and such.

Actually our lineage's are somewhat diverse at least 200 years or more, but we are very few in number. It is estimated to be about 3500 Devin worldwide. I have my Devin information posted at my website at http://www.thuntek.net/~asper/gene.html . I have a lot of information not posted which probably goes to your lineage and some which is probably common to both of our lines sometime back.

To start with, did you know there were two General Devin, both are I believe from your line? The other is Gen. Alexander S. Devin. There are even photos of both available for download from the National Archives. There is a group picture with Gen. Phillip H. Sheridan, and Generals recognized., Gen. George A. Custer, Gen. Thomas C. Devin, Gen. James W. Forsyth, Gen. Wesley Merritt.

Just go to http://www.nara.gov/nara/searchnail.html and select NAIL Standard Search. Enter Devin as the Keyword; Photographs as the Media; and All Units as the NARA Units. Press the Submit Search button. When the search finishes Press the Display Results button.

When the NAIL Brief Results page appears click the check box on the right next to each item and press the Display Selected Hits or Display All Hits button at the bottom of the page. After the photo loads you can right click on it and download the picture.

If you have any problems just let me know.

By the way I've found 3 (Irish, Norman and Saxon) crests, a castle in Czechoslovakia, a town in Bulgaria, a family in Keil Germany, towns and families in old East Germany, a family in western France.

Anyway check these out and if you want I have a lot more information for you.

Lyman Stanley 'Stan' Devin
