Hi Liz, You and I made contact a year ago and you sent me a copy of the letter that your great-grandfather wrote to your mother. And you also had correspondence from an employee at the library of Drake University and he had mentioned that there were two Juliettes who taught there in the 1940s-60s. Juliette Redfern was the music teacher and you mentioned in your email to me last year that "Redfern" was a name you recall your mother mentioned. James Devin, the adopted father of Juliette Devin, died in 1923 so he couldn't have written a letter in 1942 about anyone working at Drake University. So I don't believe he is your ancestor. I have looked up a Juliette Redfern who was born in 1909 in Nebraska. You had mentioned to me in your letter that your grandmother had a house in Nebraska. The 1930 census in Des Moines, Iowa shows Juliette at age 21 living with her parents, Ellsworth and Frances L Redfern. Juliette was already teaching music at the university at that age and her father was a chemist. Ellsworth Lovejoy Redfern was born in Iowa around April 7, 1875. He was attending school in Lincoln City, Nebraska in 1900. I found his WWI draft card. I haven't located his death record yet. Will email documents to you if you have the same email address you had last year. Hope this helps! Happy Easter! - Beth Notify Administrator about this message?
