I would be so grateful for any help you can give me, as I am trying to research the Devereux family and I believe that there may be a connection with Arlesey.
My mother's name was Barbara Helen Terry (Nee DEVEREUX).
Her father was William Herbert DEVEREUX born 1906 on Guernsey (Channel Islands).His father(my great-grandfather) was William DEVEREUX and it is he, who I believe, has the connection with Bedfordshire.He died 2 January 1936 aged 53,and I have his Marriage certificate giving me his father's name as John DEVEREUX. William must have been born in 1882. I believe that he was born in Biggleswade. Index = 3b 343. A birth certificate says 24 Sep 1882. His father’s name is left blank. He was born in the Workhouse in Biggleswade.The birth Certificate says his mother is Ann Eliza DEVEREUX (Maiden name CRAWLEY). She was born abt 1851,the daughter of George CRAWLEY and Mary Ann SCARBOROUGH. She married John DEVEREUX in Arlesey, Beds on 7 Nov 1874. They had Walter DEVEREUX (abt 1875), Ellen DEVEREUX (abt 1877) and Louisa DEVEREUX (abt 1879). However, by the census of 3 April 1881 Ann Eliza DEVER[E]UX is Widowed and living with Walter, Ellen and Louisa. On 24 Sep 1882 she had William DEVEREUX in the Workhouse at Biggleswade and the father is unnamed.
On 23 Nov 1889 Ann Eliza DEVEREUX married Arthur ALBONE at Arlesey, Beds. He was born abt 1849,his father was William ALBONE. The 1891 Census shows Arthur ALBONE is a Widower. He is living with 3 of his children (by his previous wife Deborah STIMPSON whom he married in 1871 at Biggleswade): Annie ALBONE (born abt 1881), her twin Mary ALBONE and Nellie ALBONE (born abt 1885); and 3 stepchildren, namely Ann Eliza’s children: Ellen DEVEREUX (born abt 1877), Louisa DEVEREUX (born abt 1879) and William DEVEREUX (born 24 Sep 1882). I wonder if you would kindly let me have any information you have on the Arlesey DEVEREUXs. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
