Seeking info. on J. [James?] Allen DEVERICKS (Devereaux) and his ancestors.
He was of French descent, b. ca. 1810-1815, prob. in Virginia, d. ca. 1852 in Highland Co., VA.
J. Allen md. ca. 1837 in VA Eliza Ann BROWN, b. 28 April 1818 in VA; she md.(2) Alpheus BLACKMAN 1 April 1854 in Wabash Co., Indiana; she d. 10 Jan. 1876 in America, IN.
J. Allen and Eliza lived in or near Head Waters, Highland County, VA (Shenandoah Valley). They had five children, all b. in Highland Co.:
1. William S. DEVERICKS, b. 28 Oct. 1838, Highland Co., VA, md. Margary JACOBS 23 Dec. 1860, d. 27 May 1864, Wabash Co., IN.
2. John Henry DEVERICKS, b. 23 Feb. 1842, Highland Co., VA, d. unmarried 1863, prob. TN. Bur. Nashville. (Union soldier)
3. Ortential DEVERICKS, b. 8 April 1844 nr. Staunton, Highland Co., VA, md. William Rankin BLACKMAN [her stepbrother] 14 Apr. 1861 in America, IN, d. 7 Jan. 1870, America, IN.
4. Melissa DEVERICKS, b. 14 Feb. 1847 nr. Staunton, Highland Co., VA, md. Edward Othello BLACKMAN [her stepbrother] 3 Feb. 1865 in Wabash Co., IN, d. 1 March 1879, Waukee, Iowa.
5. James Allen DEVERICKS, b. 28 Dec. 1852 Highland Co., VA, md. Alma V. HOWARD 22 Apr. 1875 in Liberty Twp., Wabash Co., IN, d. 1902 Wabash Co., IN.
