Dear Brendan,I looked up your home page at your suggestion. As you mentioned very similar family names - made me feel uneasy at the similarity of some of them. As my Great Grandfather was born in Philadelphia in 1868 and named Daniel Joseph, I wonder if Patrick (his father's) second name was also Joseph. Can't say as it has never been mentioned. When we went to Philadelphia we found that the Parish School where my Great Grandfather attended was burnt down, but the Rector we spoke to had parish records going back to the establishment of the parish in 1831. He went through some of the large books for us, they keep fairly good records, even recording the religion of the spouse other than Catholic and the family they married into. It was quite interesting. I have recently written to the Rev Lyons at the Rector Street Parish, St John the Baptist Church in Philadelphia. We met him while there and it's taken me long enough to get back to write and ask a few more questions. So I'm waiting for a reply as to where to go from here on. If the records in Donegal we lost , my 2n Cousin June, has not long returned from Ireland and also had no luck at Parish level there. We must continue the search from the point of entry to the U.S.A. There are immigration records, ship passenger lists - family names, ages and numbers of family members, sex, etc. Then censis records, of which I'm not sure of when they began to record those type of records in Philadelphia. Surely we will come up with something. As I know the names of my Great Great Grandparents & their links to the church in the Philadelphia area were quite strong. They obviously had family in the area who had settled and helped them come out to America as the family was fairly well established in the Catholic System in the area that they lived. I'm waiting on a return letter from this fellow and will let you know of any progress I have. Do you know if you had any family in America? Best Regards, Jenny Szabo. nee DEVER. p.s we pronounce our DEVER name the same sound as NEVER. Not DEEEVER !!
