Dear Maureen,

I have a posting on this gen forum - you can check some of them, My Great Great Grandfather was a Patrick Dever who married a Mary Dougherty from Donegal Ireland , they immigrated to Philadelphia and my Great Grandfather was born in 1868. My Great Uncle John James Dever says that Great Grandfather Daniel was brought up by an Aunt who was a Mother Superior of a Catholic Convent in Philadelphia as his parents died when he was young, he apparently was one of five, but I only know that he had a brother James, the other's I don't know whether they were boys or girls. They were all Catholic. My Great Grandfather Daniel went to school at the Manyaunk Parish School for his elementary education. So apparently he lived in that area of Philadelphia, He immigrated to Australia, Sydney and married in 1901. Hence the Australian connection. He married a Scottish Presbyterian girl, and was cut off from his Catholic family in America. He still travelled back and forth as he was a Seaman until about 1906.
Best Regards ,
