Hello Janice, I am Sharon Dever Olson. I only recently have started this adventure into searching my family tree, with the help of a brother in Florida- I live in Calif. I am descended from Stephen Dever through his son James Cashup Dever (brother to your Nathaniel). James was married twice, first to Rachel Braden and had two children by her a son Harrison, & a daughter Mary Mamie. The fact that he had 2 wives is what confuses some when searching. James then married Mary Braden (sister or a cousin) and had James Robert Dever. He married Mary Sudie Hall & they had my Grandfather Otto Dever. He married my Grandmother Mayme Hibbs. I have these people all from either Larue or Nelson County. As a novice to this I seem to find the male blood line is what is most important and the women are listed like an after thought. So where the men seem easy to find, when there is more than one marriage involed it gets confusing since not much is given on the women. That is why I can't give you much info on the Vittitoes. As a child growing up I did not know that my grandfather was married twice, & as children we don't ask those kind of things because we are only interested in being children. 25 years ago when I started to do this there were no computers & being transplanted to Calif. I no longer had ties with relatives in KY, some of whom I did not see often as a child because they lived in the "country" or in different cities. One of these relatives was my Aunt Dorothy Vittitoe. But when I was sending letters & making phone calls 25 years ago she was one of the few relatives that replied. The letter did not have much importance to me at the time & I put it away. When I started this search I sent this saved letter to my brother so he would have the same info I had to work with. When he sent it back instead of putting it away I read it again. One of the first thing she said was that my grandpa was her stepfather, that he had married my grandmother when she was 6 years old. It hit me then- I had never heard that my grandma had been married before. It had never been mentioned! I have been told that she loved all the children as if their were her own, and they all loved her and visited her through the years which is why I saw them and took it as a given that they were all "real" siblings. On the handwritten tree my Aunt Dorothy wrote she put my grandmother down by her maiden name- Hibbs, and never put down her name from her first marriage. Aunt Dorothy was one of those relatives who did not live close and so I did not see her often, but she was my grandmothers' daughter. I did find the name of the first wife of my Grandfather Otto was Virgie Daily, but I can find very little on my Grandmother. I have no family left that I can ask about her. I wonder if Vittitoe was her second married name (and maybe Aunt Dorothy used that name, maybe she divorced and took back Vittitoe, or if it was her married name. I wish I could tell you? Until I can find more on my Grandmother's previous marriage I can't help on the Vittitoe name, sorry. BUT..... the good news seems to be that we are related. I would like to hear from you Janice, so I hope you will answer soon. I await to hear from you, Sharon Notify Administrator about this message?
