My Great Grandfather was a Daniel Joseph Dever born 11/11/1868, his father was Patrick Dever who was married to a Mary Dougherty. They either married in America, immigrated or were born there and their parents before them were the immigrants. I think though my G.G.Grandfather was supposed to have immigrated from Donegal - his wife was from Donegal. Daniel's parents died when he was young. Well we definitely know his mother died, and he was brought up by an Aunt who was the Mother Superior of a Convent in Philadelphia. Daniel attended Manayunk Parish School in Philadelphia, for his Elementary Education. They were from a very strong Catholic background. Had a few nuns in the family. Danile immigrated to Australia in 1901 and married my Great Grandmother Mary Dickie Spalding and bought property in Drummoyne, Sydney and settled down to have four children, Thomas Allison, Joseph, Margaret and John James. We think that Patrick's father was a William, but of that I am uncertain. Daniel may have had a sibling named James. My Great Uncle John is John James, still living and a Minister about 84 now, I think. Because my Grat Grandmother was a Presbyterian , and Daniel married in the Presbyterian Church, the relatives back in the U.S.A. wrote to him to say he was cut-off. So he lost all communication with his Catholic family in Philadelphia. Quite sad, but that still happens today in some places. Well that's some news from the Australian Dever's from that line. Hope you'll write to us! Best Regards, Mrs Jenny Szabo - nee DEVER. e-mail - s175264@student.uq.edu.au
