My Great Grandfather's Father was Patrick Dever, from Donegal Ireland. They immigrated to Philadelphia in the 1800's and my Great Grandfather was born in Philadelphia and the family lived in Manyunk.Patrick's nick name was (Red Paddy). Patrick's wife was Mary Dougherty they had more than one son, I think my Uncle John always said that there was a son James as well as Daniel ( My G.Grandfather) the parents died when the children were young and my G.Grandfather was brought up by an Aunt who was a Mother Superior in the Catholic Church. Daniel was born 11/11/1868. He immigrated to
Australia in 1901 Seaman on the S.S.Sierra. Married Mary Dickie Spalding 21/3/1901- a Scottish Presbyterian - therefore cutting ties with his Catholic family in the U.S.A. They had 4 children in Australia - Thomas Alison, Joseph, Margaret and John James. My grandfather was Thomas. My Great Uncle John is the only one left from Daniels children still living. He is now 84 years old. I hope this is of help. Regards,
Jenny Szabo, nee DEVER.
