Jesse Tate Dever was born about 1780 in Virginia. His mother and father's names and identities are unknown. His father appears to have died or disappeared and his mother apparently married a Garrison Tate, who then raised Jesse. He served in the military about 1812 in Tennessee. Jesse enlisted in the War, sometime in the Fall of 1812 or 1813. He enlisted in Claiborne County, East Tennessee, in Capt Henry Hunter's Co of TN Volunteers. He resided Aug. 1815 - May 1823 in Claiborne County, Tennessee.13 In Feb 1815, in the Claiborne Co. Court Minutes, there is a reference is to the "road from David Cain's ferry on Powell River to the top of Hickory Nut Ridge." David Cain was appointed overseer of the road from David Cain's ferry on Powell River to Powell Valley. In August 1815, Jesse Devers was appointed to replace David Cain as overseer of this section of road, and in May 1817 Martin Fugate was appointed overseen of the same road "Cain ford to Powell Valley in room (place) of Jesse Deavers." He can be found on Land Records between 1828 and 1830 in Seminary Township (renamed Perry Township in 1830), Monroe Co., Indiana. He died on 7 Jun 1860 in Monroe County, Indiana. I am looking for information about his ancestors, sibblings & descendants. I'm happy to exchange data with others researching this family.
