Dear Carol,
Re - Dever name pronunciation-
Please read my posts replying on Diver/Dever this month.
My Great Grandfather Daniel Dever pronounced our name sounding the same as never also. He was born in Philadelpia in 1868 and immigrated to Australia in 1901. So since before that time our family has used the same pronounciation - my Grandmother hated people calling her Mrs Deever with the long e. She said she endured all sorts of variations and I guess gave up making corrections -although she preferred the way she was used to hearing it dever as never. My dad said I really made up for it by marrying into a European family with the name of Szabo -
the mispronounciation of my maiden name now pails into insignificance! Anyway I just wanted to let you know that in our family for as long as any living relative can remember we are Dever with the short E. All the best for Christmas. Jenny.
