I read with interest your explanation for pronunciation of the name, "Dever." My mother will be pleased to learn that your sounding of the name agrees with hers. She said her grandmother, Mozella Anthelia Dever Coffee, pronounced it as rhyming with "never." Much to her consternation, her sisters have disagreed over the years and claimed it was pronounced as rhyming with "cleaver/beaver." Personally, I prefer the "never/ever/clever" sounding of the name, and my mother swears it was the way her grandmother pronounced the name.
