Posted by: Rev. Daniel James Dever Dahl Date: December 12, 1999 at 16:07:15
  of 1065

My Great Grandfather was Jas. H. Dever b1853 Either Whimpool or Carndonagh, Donegal, Ireland, d1925 San Francisco, CA. Captain SF Fire Depart., wife: Mary Elizabeth Rielly. James' brothers/sisters: Cecilia Dever O'Donnel McGrain (1839-1931), Theresa Dever McGoldrick, Patrick, Neal, Sarah Dever McGee. from Moville immigrated US 1874/75 with his Brother through Boston settling in San Fran. Father: Patrick Dever. As of 1970's two elderly cousins (Diver) known alive in Carndonagh. Two questions:
(1) Any known relatives out there? I'm in Hawaii.
(2) Dever - opinions on the name's derivation: Norman? Or, Gaelic?
Thank you and aloha, Father Dan
