Deveau: Exiled?

I am trying to track my DeFaut ancestors, and I have gone as far as Mitchell Michael DeFaut (1794-1862) of Jefferson County, New York. I have scant evidence indicating that he may have come from the Acadian Deveau line, and that DeFaut is an "Americanized" misspelling.

Were any of the Deveaus exiled for refusing to swear allegiance to the British Crown? (abt. 1755). If so, what became of them?
