H.M. DeVaughn is actually Hampelton DeVaughn, born in Coosa County, AL in 1843. He was the son of William & Rebecca DeVaughn. William was born in 1823 in SC, probably Edgefield County and died in 1868. His father was Samuel DeVaughn, Sr. originally from Nash County, NC and the son of Thomas DeVaughn, Jr. Rebecca was born in 1827. In 1850, H.M. had two brothers, John born 1847 and William born 1849.
