My Devaney's also came from Westmeath emigrating to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1820. There may be no connection but in the Griffith's Valuations there are only 4 families of Devaney's listed for the whole county, a relatively small number compared to Northwest Irish counties. Robert Devaney, married Bridget Hamil ( of kilkenny Co.). Robert is a possible but not proven relative of Henry Devany of Noughavel Parish, Kilkenny West, Westmeath. I have a DNA sample on Ysearch.com in which a Devenney from Strabane Ireland comes close but not close enough to be considered related within the last 500 yrs. Many dead ends. Do you have any information older than Michael and John?
