The only two sons b. to Thomas DeVANE, the immigrant ancestor, were Thomas II and John I.

John I was a Major in the Rev.


John I had five sons, at least two of whom fought in the Rev., too:
-- John II was a Capt. in the Rev.
("John, Ann Julan, W3961, NC Line, sol was b 25 Dec 1755, sol lived in New Hanover Cty NC at enl, sol m Mrs. Ann Julan Evans on 25 Oct 1785 & she was b 30 Jun 1768 and her maiden name was Ann Julan Davis, sol d 15 Jun 1802, wid appl 2 Jul 1839 New hanover Cty, wid d 13 Feb 1845, in 1856 the only surviving children shown were; Ann who m J. C. Devane & Rebecca Holloway, sol's bro James was b 1 Aug 1757 & in 1839 he lived in New Hanover Cty NC & stated he srv as a Capt in 1780 & also mentioned another bro William Devane, wid's bro Francis Davis was of Bladen Cty NC in 1840 aged 84, one William S. Devan was of Clinton in Sampson Cty NC in 1856 but no relationship was stated.")

James I was married twice:
1. Abt. 1780 to Ann ROBESON, dau. of Benjamin ROBESON.
Children:
James (abt. 1781- )
Benjamin Robeson (1783-1858)
Seleath (Celia)(1784-bef. 1870)
2. Abt 1785 to Margaret CANTY of Charleston, SC.
Child:
John Canty (1790-1864)
