Thanks for the info. Where do you think I might be able to find these actual records? NC state archives perhaps? Or are local libraries and courts more likely to have them. From my other research experience, this stuff tends to be on microfilm somewhere. I'd like to get a look at the actual records if I can (and I'm willing to travel, within reason).

When you say "Someone gave his itinerary..." are you referring to Thomas? Just wanted to clarify as the previous part of the message had been about Darby. 1721 was the year that I'd seen for Thomas Devane/Devaughan popping up in North America, but if there's a 1717/18 record I would be REALLY interested.

Keep posting anything else you find. I'm currently working on another side of my family pretty heavily, but I will try to get to eastern NC sometime this summer.
