This is my family line and I have spent many years continuing with the research done by my uncles and great-uncles in order to establish a DeVane SAR Chapter in Florida. There are several errors in the previous post, even though it was printed in a DAR magazine.
The first several generations are correct - these are:
Thomas DeVane b 1700 [France] d 1781 New Hanover, North Carolina
John DeVane, Sr b 1740, New Hanover, North Carolina
John DeVane, Jr b abt 1760, New Hanover, North Carolina
Benjamin DeVane b 1796, Bladen County, North Carolina
Much of the remaining is in error. The Benjamin DeVane listed above also had a son Benjamin Franklin DeVane (my gggrandfather) b 01 Apr 1835 Lowndes (now Brooks) Co., GA. He fought in the Civil War, as did his 5 brothers. B F or "Frank" DeVane was on his way home after the surrender at Appomattox. He became sick with thyphoid fever and died 04 Jul 1865 in a Savannah hospital. He was buried in Savannah, then his remains were moved in 1994 to Mt Enon Cemetary in Plant City, FL to rest beside his wife and other family members.
This B F DeVane married Nancy Jane BLANTON and they had 4 children.

4. Franklin Elbert DEVANE b 24 Feb 1864 Lowndes Co., GA d 05 Nov 1943 Plant City, Hillsborough Co., FL; m Fanny Claude WHEELER (sister of Annie - above)
These three DeVane brothers - George, Edward and Franklin - lived in Shady Grove, FL (on the Taylor/Madison county line) with their families, until they moved south and each established farms in eastern Hillsborough County, near Plant City. The children of these brothers are listed below.
