Thank-you for repling to my message. The imformation is greatly appreciated. Now I can try to figure out why and when the e got left off the end of our name.My ganddaddy Benjamin Eugene Devan didn't have an e on the end of his last name either. My aunt Carrie A.Devan was a member of the DAR'S and also a Colonial Dame. She was born in 1895 and passed away from the flu in 1994.I wish I had gotten more information from her but I just thought she would always be around. She was always active and healthy, now it's too late. Maybe someone knows why the e got dropped.I wish someone had a list or record of the names of Benjamin Devane and Mary Ann Watkins' children and where they were born.My granddaddy Benjamin E.Devan was born in 1846 in Arlington ,Alabama to Benjamin Devan and Mary Ann Watkins. Is there any mention of Benjamin Devane and Mary Ann Watkins moving from North Carolina to Alabama. My Greatgranddaddy had land and an old large home, which no longer stands. Both my granddaddy and greatgranddaddy fought in the civil war according to our family bible. It is really remarkable considering I,m only 46 years old. I,m a late in life child and so was my father. Thanks again for the information I feel certain this has to be the lineage.I just wish there was more on them after they left North Carolina, But I guess that is where my Alabama roots come in.
