Hi Dianne, glad to see you interested in your DeVane heritage! I am descended from Celeath Sarah DeVane (b.April 8,1784) who married Theophilus Stevens and left NC ca1815 for Putnam CO GA, on to Chambers CO AL 1834. Stewart DeVane also went there and m. Eliza Whatley there, moved on to Chambers CO AL. Stewart was a Justice of the Peace and performed the wedding ceremony for Celeath's dau. Martha in 1837. Stewart left AL and returned to live on the old DeVane home place in Kerr where he died ca 1860. Yes, there is some erroneous info on our DeVanes. Clue: Thomas I & Margaret (Conti?) DeVane had four children: Thomas II married Mary Larkins John Sr m. Ann Larkins Mary m. Thomas Corbett Margaret m. (1) James Poitevint (2) --Jones Clue 2: A common misconception is that Mary and Ann Larkins (sisters) were actually Robinson. No, their mother, Tabitha, m. (1) John Larkins Sr (2) James Robinson. What is really confusing is, with (2) James Robinson, Tabitha had two sons, George and Benjamin. Benjamin had at least one dau. Ann, who m. her cousin James DeVane (James' mother Ann Larkins DeVane and Ann's father, Benjamin Robeson (Robinson)were half bro and sis. Thomas DeVane II m. Mary Larkins and had (1) Thomas II ("Baby Thom") who m. (1)--Bloodworth (2) Helen Stewart (of the royal Stewarts) (Helen's sis Catherine m. a son of John DeVane Sr, at the moment I am blank) (2) Margaret m. William King. I posted John Larkins Jr's will on the Larkins genforum, names Ann and Mary as his sisters. I posted documents showing Tabitha was m. (2)James Robinson and had George and Benjamin on the Robinson site I believe (check my messages on DeVane site). Hope this helps, Cookie Kelly Huntsville AL g
