William Davell and William Deuel of Plymouth

In relation to the Lost Colony of Roanoke, "Wiliam Davell of Plymouth, seaman" is listed as "Personnel associated with the 1590 Voyage" ("The Lost Colony Center for Science and Research, List of Participants in the Roanoke Voyages" <http://lost-colony.com/home.html> on November 26, 2008).

According to The Hyatt Report, a man named William Deuel was the first father of the huge Deuel family in America. William Deuel/Davol first appeared in American records in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts, on August 3, 1640, when he applied for a parcel of land.

Davell/Deuel/Devol are probably spelling variations; this name existed in at least twelve spellings.

It is interesting that there was a William Davell of old Plymouth and a William Deuel in new Plymouth. I doubt that they were the same person because it looks as if they were active in different generations. MAYBE these two are father and son. Both had some connection to the earliest English colonization. Or perhaps this is nothing more than a name coincidence.
