They were first cousins (Lydia Mosher was Benjamin's mother, not his wife).

The parents of Sarah (Mosher) Deuel were John2(Hugh1) Mosher and Experience3(Richard2-1) Kirby. Experience, whose mother was a Gifford, had two aunts who were ordered to be publicly whipped for disturbing Puritan church services in Sandwich (a form of Quaker protest). Both of Experience's grandfathers, Richard1 Kirby and William1 Gifford, participated in the first Quaker meeting in North America, at the house of William Allen in Sandwich in 1656. Benjamin4 Deuel's mother was the granddaughter of Mayflower passenger George Soule.

Through the Gifford line, we are distant cousins to Gerald Ford, Sir Winston Churchill and Marilyn Monroe. Through the Devol/Deuel line, it is likely that we are cousins to Abraham Lincoln by virtue of the Obediah Holmes ancestry of the wife of Hannah Audley/Odlin, wife of Jonathan2 Devol/Deuel.
