OK this is the information I have about the oldest Detty in my file that connects to my line. I could use some help figuring this all out.
In the 1820 Census of Scioto Twp., Jackson, Ohio there is an Elijah Doty listed with
1 M 16-26 (Elijah)
1 M under 10
1 F under 10
1 F 16-26 (unknown wife, possibly Elizabeth Flora)
in 1830 still same location we have:
1 M 30-40 (Elijah) making him b. 1794-1800
1 M 5-10
2 F 5-10
1 F 20-30 (Still Elizabeth? b. 1800-1804)
in 1840 still same location
1 M 40-50 Elijah
3 F 0- 5
2 F 5-10
1 F 15-20
1 F 20-30
1 F 30-40
In 1850 we have names for the first time:
Elisha 57 born Ohio
Elizabeth 18 Ohio
Sienda 16 Ohio
Nancy 14 Ohio
Sally 13 Ohio
Prudence 12 Ohio
Hannah 10 Ohio
Hetty T. 9 Ohio
David 7 Ohio
An Elijah is mentioned in marriage records as marrying:
Elizabeth Flora 22 Sep 1818 in Ross County
Susannah Throckmorton 19 Jun 1831 in Jackson County
Natt Johnson 13 Jun 1857 in Jackson County
This led me to the following assumptions:
I have not seen another Elijah so these may all be marriages for the same man, if so:
Elizabeth Flora b. 1800-1804 and married as above. She died sometime between the census and 1831.
Susannah is the wife listed as 30-40 years old in 1840, making her born between 1800 and 1810. At that time it would have been unusual for a woman to marry so late, so possibly some of the girls in the home were hers from a previous marriage.
Natt had no children, but I also have not seen an 1860 census with the family at this time.
This gives me:
Elizabeth's Children
Male born 1818-1820 William Harrison? Not sure of reason for the connection.
Female born 1818-1820
Male born 1820-1825 David? For some reason I have David Detty who married Isabelle Crago linked to this family. I never sourced the reason for the link, so I am not sure why I think this. He was born about 1819/1820
Female born 1820-1825 Margaret? She was born about 1821.
Female born 1820 Matilda? She was born about 1820 (This would explain the additional female 20-30 and the missing female 15-20 in 1840)
Susannah's Children
Female born 1835-1840 Probably Prudence
Female born 1835-1840 Probably Sally
Female born 1835-1840 Probably Nancy
Female born 1830-1835 Probably Elizabeth
Female born 1830-1835 Probably Sienda
Hannah born 1840 after census
Hetty born 1841
David born 1843 likely David Pikens Detty who I have confused with my David before.
Can anyone help me straighten this mess out????
