Re: Valentine and Peter Detlor offspring
Peter Watt 1/11/00
Jacob DETLOR married Catherine DETLOR on 16 Apr, 1806 and they are the parents of An Sophia bapt 12 Jan, 1811. Neither this Jacob or Catherine appear in the John Valentine DETLOR and Catharine HILL descendents, according to George Hill DETLOR (a grandson) who recorded this family's history in the 1800's.
Catharine, daughter of Valentine, married Daniel McMULLEN and died c.1810.
John DETLOR (born c1778 according to the 1851 census) and apparently father of Burnard is not in the George Hill DETLOR history. Therefore, I believe that Peter must have had a large family that we are trying to piece together. Also, does anyone know if Jacob Detlor and his wife Mary DOUPE came to North America?? I don't see any mention of them in the Loyalist lists.
Peter DETLOR received land at Fredericks- burgh as an U.E.L., and his sons George and Stephen L. received land by O.C. 27 Aug, 1833. I believe this George is the father of 1) Elizabeth DETLOR, who married Benjamin FILE on 7 Aug, 1821, and 2) William Van Pelt DETLOR, who married Elizabeth FILE. This is apparently the same George who died shortly after trying to save the drowning victims at Hay Bay (including Jane & Mary DETLOR - Sisters of George Hill DETLOR - who drowned) in 1819. George was born c.1777 on Staten Island and married Lettie VON PELT c.1800 at Staten Island, according to the FILES family history.
I know nothing of Stephen L. DETLOR.
My ancestor Jane DETLOR (born c.1800 in Fredericksburgh(?): died 1866 in South Dumfries) married Joseph FILE on 17 Jan, 1822 at Fredericksburgh by Rev. Robt McDOWALL. Can anyone help me figure out the connection of my Jane?
