Have you checked the records of Holy Ghost Evangelical church in St. Louis? I think your family was there in the 1840's. My great & gg-grandfather were both named George Deterding. The eldest ended up in Jacksonville, IL about 1840. Do you know if your relatives had a son (brother) with that name? This elder George died in 1850 of cancer in Jacksonville. Don't know where he came from before that.
